Sydney Merritt-Brown

Sydney (she/her) is a Miami & New York-based artist. She uses fashion as a route to discover Caribbean ancestry and people at their most personal.

Mediums: Photography, Videography & Creative Directing

As a child, Sydney always knew that storytelling took place in the moments between a camera flash. Carrying her 1993 Sony Cybershot Family Camera, her younger self knew the power of the personal. Sydney’s work often unravels the interior lives of Black women. Her Jamaican roots are seen as motifs throughout her work, whether it is the history of the diaspora or familial introspection, Sydney captures it all. Her most recent exhibition C.AP.S (Caribbean American Princesses) was recently featured at Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York.
